The Boat Becoming A Cross

A GREAT object lesson using just a piece of A3 or A4 paper.

Hold up the paper.

Once upon a time, there was a man who was very rich but not happy.

He decided he wanted to travel the world so he bought himself one of those really expensive sailing boats. It cost him millions of dollars. However, he did not care about the money. He just wanted to be happy.

Take your paper and fold one top corner over to represent a sail on a sailboat.

He sailed everywhere and was happy for a while. He travelled to every continent in the world. He saw the most amazing sights. He even travelled to New Zealand , the most beautiful country in the world. He saw mountains and hills, rivers and oceans. He saw dolphins, whales, lions, and giraffes. He even got to see a State of Origen match! Still he was not happy. In fact, he was more miserable than ever.

So he thought what he need was a beautiful house. He could have parties there.

Fold the second corner down to form a house shaped with a roof.

He was happy with his house because it had everything he had ever wanted. He had parties and all the important people came. Rock stars, film stars, every sort of star.

Then he became bored with his lovely new house and the parties. He needed more adventure. To do that he needed his own jet plane.

Fold the paper house into a paper plane with wings folded over.

He flew all over the world looking for adventure. He travelled to the most adventuresome places in the world. He abseiled and bungie jumped. He skied on the highest mountains.

However, he soon became bored again.

Then one day a friend met him and told him about Jesus dying for him on the cross. That friend could have been you telling him about Jesus.

Take the paper plane and hold the wings up together and tear them off. When you open it up it will be the symbol of the cross.

Finish with an explanation of how Jesus died on the cross to give us eternal life.

Follow-Up with Foxy Discipleship Cards

(Ideal for after Easter)

It is hard to think of a perfect follow up system for children that can help them on the way to discipleship. We think we have found the answer by using cards that children love to collect. They are printed on permanent plastic that not even putting through the wash will destroy! There are twelve cards that can be given out one at a time, week by week. On the other hand, if you are not likely to be in regular contact, they can be given to the children as a whole set and there is enough information laid out in a simple way, to begin their Christian journey. They are very reasonably priced and big discounts are offered for bulk purchases.

  • One set of cards - $3.00
  • Ten sets of cards - $25.00
  • Thirty sets of Cards - $65.00
  • Kit that includes a Foxy Puppet and scripts to go with the message that is on the cards, and ten sets of cards: $70.00

Please note, if you are planning an outreach and want multiple numbers of card one, please enquire by email.

Order by replying to this email, or via the website.

Quotable Quote

From Ivy Beckwith I . 2004. Postmodern Children's Ministry: Ministry to Children in the 21 st Century. Grand Rapids , Zondervan. (Page 53)

Good and proper soul care during the earliest years of a child's life is the basis for a positive spiritual journey in later years. While young children won't understand God and the faith community in an intellectual way, they are capable of forming lasting attitudes about God, Jesus, and the importance of the community. If the child feels the faith community is a safe and loving place, then the child will have positive attitudes about being part of that community. If the child's parents and caregivers show that listening to and following God's story is a priority for them, then the child will model those attitudes.
