Welcome to the Kidsreach email
Communique sent to you by David Goodwin and the team at Kidsreach
In two weeks it will be Mother's Day and so we feature one or two items that you may find helpful.
Thomas Edison's Mother
When he was a young boy, Thomas Edison's teacher sent him home with a note which said, 'Your child is dumb. We can't do anything for him.' Mrs. Edison wrote back, 'You do not understand my boy. I will teach him myself'. And she did, with results that are well known.

Object Lesson for Mother's Day Service
This will need your own input so add, change or subtract what you like.
Objective
Acknowledge and affirm mothers and the essential role they have in our lives.
What you will need
You will need a box or bag big enough to hold the items listed. On the outside, decorate it with large words, photos, etc. For example, it could say in big letters: THANKS MUM! Or if it is a box, you might like to wrap it in mother's day paper.
What you do
Pull each item out of the bag or box and explain how it reminds you of what being a mother is all about. Ensure that everyone can se the items. Some are funny, some are serious.
What to say
Many of us have had the influence of a wonderful mother, and what a blessing that is. If your mother is still living, thank her and tell her what a blessing she is to you. In this box (bag) I have several items to remind us all of what our mothers have done for us.
Half broken wooden spoon
Whoops, not sure how that got in there and I HAVE NO IDEA what it means! (You may want to give yourself a light tap on the hand or bottom and let the audience see the spoon break).
Empty purse
Wonder why mum's purse is always empty!
Nike item How many times has your mother said to you: ‘JUST DO IT!' When it comes to cleaning your room: “Don't stand there, JUST DO IT!” Or when it comes to doing the dishes: (look for audience to yell back” JUST DO IT!” ETC.
Book of tricks or jokes: You know what they say? You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you ‘Can't Fool Mum'.
The word Evolution with a big NO Mothers are living proof that that evolution does NOT exist. (Pause for reflection). If evolution really worked, then mothers would by now have developed more than two hands?
A circle
A circle never ends: A mum's work never ends. We all know the story of the foolish husband who dared ask his wife what she did all day?
When he came home from work the next day and found t total mayhem in the house. His three children were outside, still in their pyjamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess.
He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had happened.
He found her lounging in the bedroom, still curled in the bed in her pyjamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?"
She again smiled and answered, "You know everyday when you come home from work and ask me what in the world did I do today? Well today I didn't do it”
Rubber band
Mothers learn to be flexible. Flexible with their time, their children and their husbands!!
Clock Mothers learn to be expert time keepers. They always need to know where their children are and at what time they will be home. And if they are just one minute late!! What happens????? (Ask for audience response) And she all the time has to remind her children that time is ticking away. And the special times that our mothers spent just with us, even though they were busy.
Binoculars Wherever you are you can be sure your mother is keeping an eye on you. It is true what they say that they have eyes in the back of their head.
Stick of celery or similar And they are also good at making us eat what we really didn't want to eat because they know they are important for us. Like broccoli and celery. Chippies and coke would have been so much nicer for breakfast.
Lipstick or similar Despite the rush and bustle of getting everyone else ready, she always manages to make herself look beautiful, even if it is in the car on the way to church, for herself and her family. (Ask how many mothers either brush their hair or put make up on while travelling to church this morning? And we won't ask who was driving).
Sticking plaster In so many ways it is a mothers task to bring healing to grazed knees and hurting hearts
Mini chocolate bars , chocolate kiss or a love heart. When everyone else in the family is running around like a mad thing, mothers seem to know how to bring sweetness into the situation. They know how to make us feel loved. They know how to hug
Dumbbells or weights Mums learn to exercise their spiritual strength by praying for their family. And it takes a lot of courage to teach your children to stand up for what is right in a world that has gone crazy with sin.
Fridge Magnet decoration Mums know how to make their children feel special, especially when they bring home paintings or photos that get put on the fridge as if they were good enough for all the world to se. This is what gives kids courage to think they can be good at doing anything they want.
Cup cake or any small cake. Mums are really good at making things special.
Eraser Forgiving
Text book or Bible Mothers are the best teachers in the world. Kids – we should take notice of them and if we did, maybe we would have a lot less trouble in the world.
Handkerchief Being a mother is a bit like an emotional roller coaster. How many times do mothers cry for their kids, especially when they see them struggle, get hurt or make mistakes?
Tea Bag And finally – a tea bag. Because when everyone has gone off to school or work or to bed, and the washing is still piled up, the one comfort is to sit down and have a cup of tea and thank God for being all these things and more. So what we want to do is to say "thanks" for all the things that our mothers have done for us.

#33 HEART OF THE FATHER
‘The Heart of the Father' will help children develop a relationship with God based on the unconditional love that he has for them.
Children need to know the ‘Heart of the Father'. Many children are brought up in homes where they have not experienced the love of even an earthly father so they are not off base one with this. But all children, even if they do have a loving mother and father, need to experience God's love.

#13 BORN TO FLY
Eagles are said to be the most magnificent creatures on earth.
There are 33 references to eagles in the Bible. They are used to describe: Attributes of God; The Word of God and The People of God.
This subject looks at how the eagle shows us about God and our Christian walk.

#8 BEING FRIENDLY
Children often behave in ways that are not friendly. The extreme of this can lead to bullying. Just normal children's behaviour can shut less popular children out of activities and keep them from building friendships within a group. Often children do not return to church, and the reason is not that there is anything wrong with the program, but that they do not feel accepted by the other children. The opposite is also true, children will go where they have friends.
The aim of this program is to help you build the friendliest children's ministry in your town. A place where children feel accepted and loved, not just by the leaders but also by the children.
