Kidsreach is an inter-denominational
Christian organisation with a mission to
train, resource, equip and encourage people
who minister to children.
Beginnings
Kidsreach was born out of
Camp David, a Children's Camp and Ministry
centre in Hawkes Bay New Zealand. It was
there while ministering to the many thousands
of children who attended the programmes
that the ideas now used by Kidsreach were
begun.
David Goodwin, then the Director
of Camp David developed a correspondence
course to help workers learn about their
ministry to children. Several publications
also appeared as well as many training
seminars around NZ, Australia and other
countries. The first National Conference
on Children's Ministry in NZ attracted
delegates from all over the country.
Toward the end of 1994 it
was decided that Camp David would continue
to develop its very effective Camp Ministry
but that the Training Seminars, Resources
and the School of Children's Ministries
(SCM) would be better able to develop under
a new organisation. Hence Kidsreach was
launched.
Activities
The hub of Kidsreach is the
School of Children's Ministries, the National
Conference and the Discovery Club. Training
Seminars and a wide range of resources
that focus on training those who work with
children complement Conference and SCM.
There is also counselling to children and
a very effective ministry to children's
workers of Sri Lanka including assisting
to run a National Conference in that country.
There are many other phases of the vision
of Kidsreach still to be developed, including
a National Magazine for Children's Ministry.
Today
Kidsreach formed a Charitable
Trust 1999 and incorporated in 2001 as
a means of further growing its ministry.
As well as operating a specialised resource
centre, training and conference we offer
qualified one on one counselling to children.
Its founding directors are David and Therese
Goodwin now resident in Australia. Its
New Zealand office is on the Kapiti Coast
and forms a base for New Zealand activities.
